GSC Export Coverage Checker
A Google Search Console Queries export may contain fewer clicks and impressions than the Performance chart totals. Google leaves anonymised queries out of the tables but counts them in the chart totals unless you filter by query. The interface also exports at most 1,000 rows. This checker adds up your exported rows, compares them with the chart totals for the same report, and measures the difference in your browser.
All analysis happens in this browser. Nothing from your files is uploaded.
About this tool
Google's October 2022 Search Central post on performance data limits describes privacy filtering and row limits. It defines anonymised queries as those not issued by more than a few dozen users over two to three months. These queries are omitted from the tables. They are included in the chart totals unless you filter by query. The post also says the maximum you can export through the Search Console interface is 1,000 rows. These limits can leave a difference between the exported query sums and the chart totals.
Export the Queries table and the Dates table from the same Performance report. Keep the same date range, search type and filters for both. The Dates file supplies the chart totals. Say whether you applied a query filter before exporting. A query filter changes what the gap can mean. The result shows the exported sums, their share of the supplied totals and the difference. It also says which possible causes the inputs can and cannot separate.
The API and the Looker Studio connector provide up to 50,000 rows per day per site per search type. That is more than an interface export. The API returns up to 25,000 rows per request. The startRow parameter pages through the rest. The checker measures the difference but cannot establish its cause. It cannot name the omitted queries, count them or say whether any came from AI features.
How to use it
- Open Search Console in English so the export has English column headings. Open Performance and then Search results. Select Clicks and Impressions, choose a date range and export the report. Note the search type and any filters.
- Upload the downloaded Queries and Dates files. Or paste the Queries table with its column headings and type the chart totals.
- Add brand terms if useful. Answer the query filter question and run the check.
What it checks
- Clicks and impressions in your query rows against the chart totals
- Whether the row count matches the 1,000-row interface maximum or the 25,000-row API request maximum
- The top 10 rows' share of exported clicks, rows with no clicks, and an optional brand term split based on substring matching
Limits
This compares exported query rows with totals you supply. It cannot name the omitted queries, count them, or tell whether any came from AI features. Brand matching uses the terms you enter and applies only to exported rows.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't my query rows add up to the chart totals?
Anonymised queries are omitted from the tables but included in the chart totals unless you filter by query. The interface also exports at most 1,000 rows. Either limit can leave a gap.
Can the checker split the gap between anonymised queries and the row limit?
No. It measures the difference but cannot reliably divide it between privacy filtering, export limits or other causes. Your answer to the query filter question narrows the possible explanations.
How do I get more than 1,000 rows?
Use the Search Analytics API or the Looker Studio connector. Both expose up to 50,000 rows per day per site per search type. API requests return up to 25,000 rows. The startRow parameter pages through the rest.
Are my Queries and Dates files uploaded?
No. The files are read and analysed in your browser and are not sent to any server.
