As a Shopify SEO consultant, I work exclusively with store owners who know their products deserve more visibility than Shopify gives them out of the box. Shopify is a brilliant platform for running an online store, but it was built for ease of use, not for search engine dominance. That gap is where I come in.
I help Shopify merchants across the UK fix the technical constraints baked into the platform, build collection and product pages that actually rank, and create content strategies that drive compounding organic revenue month after month.

Why Shopify stores need specialist SEO
Shopify is not like WordPress or a custom-built site. It comes with platform-level constraints that a generalist SEO consultant simply will not understand deeply enough to fix properly.
Rigid URL structure. Shopify forces URLs into patterns like /collections/, /products/, and /pages/. You cannot change this. Every product lives under /products/ whether you want it to or not, and collection pages generate duplicate URLs that confuse Google.
Duplicate collection URLs. This is the single biggest Shopify SEO headache. When a product sits inside a collection, Shopify creates a second URL, /collections/your-collection/products/your-product, alongside the canonical /products/your-product. Without proper handling, Google crawls and sometimes indexes both.
Limited robots.txt control. Shopify auto-generates your robots.txt file, and until recently you had almost no ability to modify it. Even now, the control is limited compared to other platforms. You cannot freely block crawl paths or direct Googlebot the way you could on a self-hosted site.
Liquid theme limitations. Shopify's Liquid templating language restricts what you can do with on-page SEO elements. Adding structured data, customising meta tags at scale, or building dynamic internal linking requires either custom Liquid code or a developer who understands both Shopify and SEO, a rare combination.
These are not minor inconveniences. They are structural issues that hold back stores with genuine ranking potential. A specialist technical SEO audit built around Shopify's architecture is the only way to surface and resolve them.
Common Shopify SEO problems
Beyond the platform constraints, I see the same problems across nearly every Shopify store I audit:
Duplicate /collections/ URLs bleeding crawl budget. Google spends time crawling URLs that add no value. On stores with hundreds of products across dozens of collections, this compounds rapidly and dilutes your authority.
Thin collection pages. Most Shopify collection pages contain nothing but a product grid. No introductory copy, no buying guides, no internal links to related collections. Google sees a page with almost no unique content and ranks it accordingly.
Bloated apps destroying page speed. Every Shopify app you install injects JavaScript into your theme. Reviews, pop-ups, upsells, currency converters: each one adds render-blocking scripts. I regularly see Shopify stores with 15+ apps where the homepage takes six seconds to become interactive.
Poor internal linking. Shopify's default navigation handles top-level links, but it does nothing for contextual internal linking between related products, collections, and blog posts. This leaves enormous amounts of link equity stranded.
Missing or incorrect product schema. Shopify themes often include basic product schema, but it is frequently incomplete: missing review ratings, availability data, or correct pricing fields. Rich results drive clicks, and broken schema means you are leaving them on the table.

My Shopify SEO services
I offer a complete Shopify SEO service built around the platform's specific requirements. Every engagement starts with understanding your store, your margins, and which products or collections have the highest commercial value.
Technical Shopify audit. I crawl your store, identify duplicate URL issues, audit your canonical tags, review your robots.txt and sitemap configuration, check page speed across device types, and map out every technical issue holding you back. This is built specifically for Shopify's architecture, not a generic SEO audit.
Collection page optimisation. Your collection pages are your category pages: they should be ranking for your highest-volume commercial keywords. I write optimised collection descriptions, build internal linking structures between related collections, and ensure each page targets a specific keyword cluster identified through thorough keyword research.
Product schema and rich results. I implement comprehensive Product schema markup including price, availability, reviews, and brand data. For stores with variants, I ensure the schema reflects your actual product structure so Google displays accurate rich snippets.
Shopify speed optimisation. I audit every installed app and third-party script, remove what is unnecessary, defer what is not critical, and optimise images and Liquid rendering. Speed improvements on Shopify are often dramatic because most stores have never been properly audited.
Content strategy and blog. Shopify's blog is underused by most merchants. I build a content plan that targets informational keywords your buyers are searching, establishes topical authority in your niche, and funnels readers towards collection and product pages through strategic on-page SEO and internal linking.
Shopify Plus considerations. If you are on Shopify Plus, you have access to additional customisation: custom checkout scripts, greater API access, and multi-currency storefronts. I tailor my approach to take full advantage of these capabilities, particularly around international SEO and advanced schema implementation.
This work fits naturally alongside my broader ecommerce SEO consultant service, with every recommendation tailored to Shopify's specific platform.
Ready to grow your Shopify store's organic traffic?
Get in touch and I will audit your store's biggest SEO opportunities.
Month one is diagnostic. I run a full technical audit, competitor analysis, and keyword mapping. You receive a prioritised roadmap: not a 60-page PDF you will never read, but a clear action plan ranked by revenue impact.
Months two and three focus on technical fixes and collection page optimisation. This is where the structural Shopify issues get resolved and your highest-value pages get properly optimised.
Month four onwards shifts to content, link building, and ongoing optimisation. I track rankings, traffic, and revenue weekly, adjusting the strategy based on what the data shows.
I work directly with your Shopify developer if you have one, or I handle the Liquid template changes myself. Either way, nothing gets implemented without your approval.
