SEO for dealerships, garages, MOT centres, parts and accessories retailers and automotive publishers. Stock, service and location intent handled separately.

Automotive search is not one market. Vehicle stock competes with national marketplaces.
Servicing and MOT searches are local. Parts searches depend on fitment and product detail. Reviews and comparisons serve people who may be weeks away from buying.
I separate those search journeys before changing pages. Dealers, garages, body shops, parts retailers and publishers need different indexation rules and different evidence. Treating every query as a variation of "cars" creates wasted crawl budget and pages that answer the wrong intent.

Why Automotive Search Is Fragmented
Automotive search splits by stock, service, part, problem and research stage. Auto Trader and other marketplaces dominate broad used-car queries because they combine large inventories with powerful filters and strong authority. A dealer site rarely wins by copying that experience on a smaller scale.
Local service intent behaves differently. A driver looking for an MOT, tyre fitting, body repair or manufacturer service wants a credible provider within a practical distance. Location, opening details, service scope, reviews and booking access matter more than the size of a national stock index.
Parts searches introduce fitment. A category page must distinguish vehicle compatibility, product type and use.
Weak titles or duplicated supplier descriptions make hundreds of products look interchangeable. Filters can also create crawlable combinations that add no unique value.
Editorial searches sit earlier in the decision. Reviews, comparisons, installation guides and legal explainers need clear methodology and accurate specifications. Those pages build authority but shouldn't be mixed with local garage intent or fast-changing vehicle stock.
What an Automotive SEO Consultant Does
An automotive SEO consultant sets a different search policy for stable categories, fast-changing listings, local services and editorial content. The technical rules follow the commercial role of each page type.
Vehicle and stock indexation. I decide which model, make and category pages should remain stable. Individual stock pages need a plan for sold vehicles, replacement stock, redirects and status codes. The site shouldn't accumulate soft 404s every time a car leaves the forecourt.
Service and MOT location pages. I build distinct pages around genuine services and areas. Local SEO connects them with Google Business Profile, consistent business details and real customer reviews.
Parts fitment and categories. I review taxonomy, product data, compatibility filters, canonicals and internal search. An e-commerce SEO consultant structure helps important categories rank without indexing every filter combination.
Review and comparison content. I define a repeatable format for specifications, testing criteria, differences and buyer questions. Claims need a source or a recorded test. Manufacturer copy isn't independent evidence.
Technical auditing. I check rendering, sitemaps, internal links, duplicate URLs, pagination, structured data and page speed across each template. Inventory systems often create more URLs than the visible navigation suggests.
Google Business Profile. Dealers and garages need correct categories, services, hours, booking links and location details. The profile must reflect the real business rather than an invented set of service areas.

Automotive Businesses I Work With
Dealers need stable model and location architecture around a changing stock feed. Independent garages and MOT centres need local service visibility with a direct booking or enquiry path. Body shops need clear separation between insurance, accident, cosmetic and specialist repair intent.
Parts e-commerce sites need accurate fitment data and controlled categories. Detailing businesses need location and service pages that show what is included without copying nearby towns. Automotive publishers need structured reviews, comparisons and supporting guides that can earn search visibility over time.
I manage an in-house automotive technology property and use its published data where it directly supports the work. Every other recommendation starts with the business's own inventory, services and Search Console evidence.

Automotive Content and AI Search
Automotive content can earn AI search citations when it gives systems a clear fact set, transparent comparison and useful answer. Generic product roundups are easy to reproduce. A structured review with named criteria and consistent specifications is easier to trust and reuse.
The result came from focused review and comparison content supported by technical explainers. It isn't a promise that every automotive site will reproduce the same numbers.
AI visibility still depends on ordinary publishing discipline. Keep model names, compatibility, prices and legal information current.
Separate observed test results from manufacturer claims. Show how a comparison was made. My AI search optimisation work tracks citation patterns alongside clicks and rankings so the reporting doesn't mistake a mention for a commercial result.

Not for most generic used-car terms. A dealer can compete for brand and location searches, local services and finance-adjacent queries where its pages offer more specific value.
Should vehicle stock pages be indexed?
Selectively. Index stable model and category pages, then control fast-changing listings so sold stock doesn't create crawl waste, dead ends and soft 404s.
Does automotive content get cited in AI search?
Yes. Structured review and comparison content from my own portfolio has earned thousands of AI citations when the pages provide clear specifications, methodology and useful answers.
