Hotel SEO Consultant

Every direct booking you win from search is commission you keep. SEO for independent hotels, boutique properties, B&Bs and small groups.

Hotels lose direct bookings when their own site is the weakest result for the property, location or stay someone wants. OTAs buy visibility around hotel names and dominate broad city searches. The hotel then pays commission for a guest who was already looking for that property.

I build a more useful route from search to the hotel's own booking journey. The work covers brand results, rooms, offers, local demand, booking engine setup and technical performance. It doesn't depend on pretending an independent hotel can beat every marketplace for every broad query.

Why Hotels Lose Direct Bookings to OTAs

Hotels lose direct bookings because OTAs make comparison easy and maintain strong search visibility. Booking.com and Expedia can appear around a property's brand searches through organic listings and paid ads. A slow hotel site with unclear rates or a weak booking button gives the guest little reason to stay direct.

Many hotel sites also contain very little indexable information. One room page lists every room type.

Facilities sit behind icons. Restaurant, wedding and meeting spaces receive a paragraph each. The property may be relevant to dozens of specific searches but owns no page that answers them.

Booking engines add a technical split. Availability may open on a third-party domain or subdomain with different navigation, tracking and page speed.

Search authority doesn't automatically follow the visitor into that environment. Analytics may also count the booking journey as a referral rather than one continuous session.

Local content is often left to an embedded map and a generic list of attractions. That misses searches around events, venues, transport links and the reasons people choose one part of a destination over another.

What a Hotel SEO Consultant Does

A hotel SEO consultant protects the property brand while building pages for the stays and local needs that OTAs describe poorly. Direct booking SEO begins with a clean path between the search result, hotel page, offer and booking engine.

Brand SERP protection. I check the results around the exact hotel name, common variations and high-intent brand combinations. Titles, descriptions, sitelinks and structured data should make the official site clear. Paid and organic activity can then be judged against the commission saved.

Google Business Profile and hotel schema. I align the profile, contact details, booking links, amenities and property information with the site, with structured data describing facts the hotel can support: current rates, real availability, amenities on-site.

Room and offer page structure. Each important room, package or use case needs enough information to stand alone. Local SEO also connects the property to genuine place-based demand without creating copied town pages.

Booking engine review. I check domain setup, crawl behaviour, mobile usability, analytics continuity, booking links and page transitions. The goal is to find where a third-party system breaks discovery or measurement.

Technical performance. Hotel sites carry large galleries, video and booking scripts. A technical SEO audit shows which templates delay the page, hide content or create duplicate URLs.

What Clients Say

The SEO work delivered real results — I’m seeing more clicks compared to this time last year in Google Analytics, without having to spend loads on advertising. Super impressed.

Before working with Sunny, we were getting around 180 organic visits a month. Nine months later we’re at 620 and enquiries from organic have tripled.

We went from invisible in local pack to ranking in the top 3 for our main service terms within 5 months. The increase in enquiry rate was roughly 3×.

Sunny’s topical map approach was unlike any other SEO work we’d had before. Within 6 months we were ranking for terms we’d never appeared for.

Hotel Types I Work With

Independent hotels need to turn the property's character and location into useful search pages. Boutique hotels often have strong photography and brand language but weak room detail. Country house hotels need separate journeys for stays, dining, weddings, meetings and events.

B&Bs compete through a narrower location and personal experience. Serviced apartments need clarity around stay length, facilities, work travel and group use. Small hotel groups need each property to rank locally without losing the authority and navigation provided by the group site.

I bring 15+ years of SEO work and direct portfolio management to the site's actual data, booking journey and market. A travel SEO consultant approach supports broader destination and itinerary demand when the business operates beyond one property.

Local and Event-Led Demand

Local and event-led pages capture searches that broad hotel categories miss. Guests often choose a property because it is near a wedding venue, conference centre, university, station, festival or attraction. The page should explain the real relationship rather than add a place name to generic hotel copy.

Wedding content needs clear information about capacity, spaces, accommodation and enquiry steps. Conference pages need room layouts, facilities and travel information.

Attraction guides should help a guest plan the visit and show why the hotel is a suitable base. Each page then links to the most relevant room or offer.

Seasonal planning keeps this content visible before demand peaks. Christmas packages, summer events and graduation stays need pages live while people are comparing options. My guide to SEO versus paid ads helps separate lasting search assets from campaigns that stop when the spend stops.

Hotel SEO Questions

Can a hotel outrank Booking.com?

Yes for its own brand name and for specific local long-tail searches. A hotel will rarely beat Booking.com for broad "hotels in [city]" terms, so the strategy targets queries with a clearer reason to book direct.

Does the booking engine affect SEO?

Yes. Subdomain and third-party booking engines can split authority, interrupt analytics and weaken the mobile journey. I review the setup and show where the handover causes a search or tracking problem.

What does hotel SEO cost?

A hotel SEO audit costs £495 at a fixed fee. Ongoing retainers start from £1,500 per month and depend on the number of properties, offers and booking systems involved.

Zero-Risk Engagement

  • No minimum contract — monthly rolling, cancel with 30 days notice
  • You own everything — all content, data, and account access are yours from day one
  • Monthly reporting — traffic, rankings, and milestone progress every month

Pricing

A technical SEO audit costs £495 at a fixed fee. A topical map costs £800 to £2,500 depending on the number of properties, facilities and local demand areas. Monthly retainers range from £1,500 to £5,000+ depending on group size and implementation support.

Every engagement begins with a free 20-minute diagnosis. I review the hotel's visibility and booking path before recommending an audit, content plan or retainer.
